Port of Ngqura off to a Clean Start (January 2010)

The Port of Ngqura recently selected a Tennant Sentinel for their road sweeping requirements. Having identified the need to meet the environmental requirements of this fantastic new Port, the selection of a sweeper that not only sweeps well, but controls the dust generated by the sweeping process was key to the Ports requirements.

The Tennant Sentinel was tried and tested at the Port and came out with flying colours!  After tough negotiations with HMC, the order to Goscor Cleaning Equipment was approved.  Delivery took 3 months and 2 days for installation.  Although the Port is not at capacity yet, the sweeper was immediately put into operation. The Tennant Sentinel is a mechanical broom sweeper combined with filtered vacuum dust control.  This technology ensures that dust generated is controlled within the requirements of the Air Quality Act.  The configuration supplied also incorporates the option of using water as an added dust control measure.  The unit was supplied with a front Vario Broom for reaching hard-to-reach areas; an onboard hydraulically driven pressure washer; a high dump stainless steel hopper to 2900mm and dual side brooms.

Operator training was conducted with 6 of the Port’s operators for one full day in a classroom and one full day of practical training.  Training was a breeze with the simple ‘one touch button’ operation system, making all operators comfortable with this great new machine. The cab environment is also temperature controlled and pressurized to keep dust out, making this machine a pleasure for any operator.

The Tennant Sentinal has proven itself in the Port of Ngqura as well as in other heavy industry environments such as Aluminum smelters, cement plants and foundries to name a few.
